Mary A. Canty is a paralegal qualified through education, training and more than sixteen years of experience assisting attorneys in various areas of legal expertise, and is certified as a paralegal qualified to assist in the area of real estate by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She is also the administrator of King & Sommer, LLP. Ms. Canty earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, in 1976. She came to King & Sommer, LLP in 2007 from the law firm Jackson Walker L.L.P., where she worked under Eileen E. Sommer and Janet L. King since 2004. Prior to her employment at Jackson Walker, Ms. Canty was a paralegal at Barton, Schneider & East, L.L.P., working under J.Cary Barton since 1991.
Ms. Canty is particularly experienced in assisting attorneys in the acquisition, ownership, use, financing, development, leasing and disposition of land and improvements of all types, including commercial and farm and ranch. As a state board certified paralegal in real estate, she regularly attends continuing legal education programs to remain current in legal developments. She also is experienced in assisting in the formation and governance of business entities, and in the due diligence and coordination of closing with respect to business mergers and acquisitions.
As a paralegal of the firm, Ms. Canty assists in the drafting of documentation, such as purchase and sale contracts, deeds, notes, deeds of trust, security agreements, financing statements, loan modification agreements, estoppel certificates, resolutions, corporate certifications and other various ancillary documents. She reviews title policy commitments and title exception documents, surveys and field notes. She coordinates with title company escrow officers, examining attorneys, engineers and surveyors to address title curative matters, and with municipal and governmental personnel to secure information and certificates pertaining to zoning, utilities, rights of way, condemnation, platting, building permits, certificates of occupancy, verification of set-back lines, height and use restrictions and utility availability letters. She assists with due diligence matters involving loan financings, property acquisitions and asset and company purchase transactions, including the preparation of schedules and coordination of closing and preparation of final closing binders. She is also experienced in assisting in the preparation of the documentation pertaining to non-judicial foreclosures. |
