Janet L. King
Janet L. King has over 41 years of legal experience, focusing her practice on general business transactions and contracts, entity formation, corporate governance and corporate management. She is licensed to practice law in Texas. A native Texan, Ms. King graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1975 with honors and remained in Austin to obtain her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in May 1978. She worked as a briefing attorney for Honorable Mary Lou Robinson, Chief Justice of the Texas Court of Civil Appeals sitting in Amarillo, Texas, and then served as a Law Clerk for United States District Judge Mary Lou Robinson when she was appointed to the federal bench. After her clerkship, Ms. King joined the law firm of Underwood Wilson Berry Stein & Johnson in Amarillo in 1980 as an associate and later a partner. In 1990, Ms. King and her family relocated to San Antonio, and she joined the law firm of Small, Craig & Werkenthin, P.C. as a partner in their San Antonio office, later becoming the Partner-in-Charge of that office. In 1999, when Small Craig & Werkenthin, P.C. joined the law firm of Jackson Walker LLP, she became a partner in that firm and remained there until August of 2007. Ms. King co-founded the firm of King & Sommer, PLLC in August of 2007 and is one of its four managers. Area of Practice and Expertise Ms. King has over 41 years of experience representing business entities, including cooperatives, business owners and boards of directors in a wide variety of business matters including acquisitions, mergers, conversions, entity formation, entity governance, shareholder agreements, contracts, asset preservation planning, management succession planning, and management policies and procedures. She particularly enjoys representing clients over the long term, being involved in their businesses and counseling on day-to-day matters as well as major issues. Ms. King attended and completed mediation training at The Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution at The University of Texas School of Law.
